JeongMee Yoon [Seúl, 1969]

JeongMee Yoon (Seúl, 1969) obtuvo su BFA de la Seoul National University y su MFA de la Hong-Ik University en Korea del Sur. En 2006, obtuvo su segundo MFA en la School of Visual Arts en Nueva York, EEUU. Actualmente vive y trabaja en Seúl.

Es profesora de fotografía en la Universidad Nacional de Seúl y la Seoul Insitute of Arts.

Exposiciones (Selección): Exposición individual en la Kumho Museum, Seoul. Exposiciones colectivas incluyen: Bienal de Busan, Bienal de Gwangju en Korea del Sur, Casa Asia en Barcelona, Loop Art Festival en Barcelona, Paris Cinema, Thermocline of Art – New Asian Waves en la ZKM Center for Art and Media de Alemania, New Acquisitions en la Museum of Fine Arts en Houston, Texas, Flash Cube en la Samsung Museum of Art de Seoul, The Photographic Center Northwest Gallery in Seattle, Washington y la Perkins Center for the Arts in New Jersey.

Premios incluyen la prestigiosa beca Daum Prize otorgada por la Geonhi Art Foundation (Seoul, Korea del Sur), la beca Aaron Siskind Scholarship (NY, EEUU), y la Paula Rhodes Memorial Award entre muchos otros. En 2007, el libro titulado “The Pink and Blue Project” que recoge fotografías de su ultimo proyecto, junto con textos de Young June Lee, Richard Vine (Managing Editor de Art in America), y la artista, es seleccionado por la American PHOTO Magazine como uno de los mejores libros de artista-fotográficos del año, “The Best Photo Books of the Year”. En Abril 2007, una de las fotografías del proyecto The Pink and Blue Project se convierte en portada de la mítica revista Life Magazine, junto con un reportaje en el interior.

El trabajo de Yoon forma parte de numerosas colecciones, incluyendo: Johnson & Johnson Collection (NJ, USA), National Mudeum of Contemporary Art, Art Bank (South Korea), 5.18 Foundation (Gwangju, South Korea), The Museum of Fine Art (Houston, EEUU), , Ssamzie Space (South Korea), Dell Children’s Medical Center (Texas, EEUU), además de la colección particular de Bonnie Yochelson (en aquel entonces, curator de la Museum of the City of New York, EEUU).


METODOLOGÍA Y TÉCNICA FOTOGRÁFICA

JeongMee utiliza una Hasselblad 6x6, con la apertura más pequeña, f-22, para conseguir que todos los objetos que aparecen en el retrato puedan enfocarse con la misma precisión, como si de una pintura se tratase.

La artista utiliza entre cinco y ocho rollos de película en cada sesión fotográfica, produciendo unas noventa pruebas entre las cuales elige la fotografía definitiva.

Yoon currently teaches photography at Seoul National University, the most prestigious centre for undergraduate and postgraduate study in Korea, as well as at the Seoul Institute of the Arts, a specialist centre for visual and performance arts.
